BX Series Radial Drill Features for 3"-10" and 4"-10"
 
 


The arm is cast in the form of a box with heavy crossed ribs to maintain the greatest possible rigidity.
The base plate is built in the form of a closed box and is heavily reinforced by numerous ribs. Both the coolant tank and electric pump are mounted in the base at the foot of the column.
The column is of very sturdy construction with a heavy cross rib running the full length. It is precision ground to provide
greatest accuracy. The column is mounted in large roller and ball bearings in a heavy foot casting which is securely fixed to the base. Base, arm and column are normalized before machining to eliminate possible internal stresses. All castings are 200-220 HB hardness and heavily ribbed for maximum strength and minimum vibration.
The Raptor head assembly rolls easily on two heavy duty ball bearings and the head is locked rigidly by a single lever. A simple system is provided for adjustment of the head movement always allowing the required ease of operation. The bearings run on a special hardened steel strip to insure continued accuracy and ease of operation. Strip is easily replaced after years of wear.
All electrical operating controls and switches are 24 volts. A single lever operates start-stop and reverse action of the double clutch and built in limit switches insure Hydraulic Clampingstopping at top and bottom limits.

Available as an option for both WB-40/ 1000 and WB-40/1250. Hydraulic clamping of head and column with oil powered pistons, activated by push buttons on face of head.

SpindleHydrobloc ControlsHYDROBLOC CONTROLS
When lever is in position (A) you may obtain clamping-unclamping of both arm and head. When lever is in position (B) and arm is locked you may obtain clamping-unclamping of the head only. When lever is in position (C) and head is locked, you may obtain clamping-unclamping of the arm only.

SPINDLE
The hardened and ground forged steel spindle is strongly supported at both ends to insure maximum rigidity. Lower end of spindle is mounted in a large roller bearing and a single row thrust bearing. Bearings are adjustable. Oversize spindle and quill assembly suitable for sensitive I drilling work and boring operations. The spindle is supported by a counter-weight providing equal sliding ease for full length of spindle travel.

Power Feed MechanismPOWER FEED MECHANISM
Power feed rates are selected by a hand wheel even as the drill is working. Power feed is engaged by pulling feed handles out from machine. The feed clutch has internal fine teeth for positive engagement. Power feed is disengaged by simply knocking feed handles in or when predetermined depth setting is reached.

Double Action ClutchDOUBLE ACTION CLUTCH
Two series of hardened steel discs make it possible to effect smoothly and quickly the double coupling and the two directions of rotation of the spindle. Ideally suited for tapping operations, because reverse spindle speed is approx. 40% faster than tapping speed.

BX Series Radial Drill Features for 4"-13" and 5"-13"

The arm is of high strength annealed cast iron with a substantial cross ribbed box design. The bearing way for head travel is protected by a replaceable wear strip. The arm can turn 360 degrees around the column.
All gearing in head is continuous and abundantly lubricated by a reversible gear pump. The reduction gear driving the arm raising screw runs in an oil bath.
Wiftis-Bergo provides a superior design in a double wall column. White the internal column is rigidly fixed to the base the external column rotates on large roller bearings and provides maximum support for the arm. The new locking design provides superior repeat clamping accuracy.
Arm raises and lowers without disturbing alignment, and when electric switch is turned off, arm automatically locks hydraulically.
The coolant tank and electric pump are mounted in the base at the foot of the column. The base is built in the form of a closed box and reinforced by numerous ribs.

A. Conveniently located four position switch. Arm raise and lower control. When switch is returned to central position, arm is hydraulically locked automatically. Also serves as spindle direction switch, clockwise or counterclockwise rotation.

Spindle Speed Range Selector

SPINDLE SPEED RANGE SELECTOR
(through gears)

A. Position one-slow range; position two-medium range; position three-fast range.
B. Clutch and spindle motor control lever. Five positions: neutral, slow, and fast motor speed reverse and slow and fastmotor speed forward.

Spindle Speed and Feed Gear ChainSPINDLE SPEED AND FEED GEAR CHAIN
All gears and shafts are nickel-chrome steel, hardened and ground. All gear shafts are mounted in ball or taper roller bearings.

SpindleSPINDLE AND QUILL
Spindle and quill are nickel chrome-molybdenum steel, hardened and ground. Bottom of spindle is mounted in class 5 double row roller bearing and thrust bearing and protected by grease seal. Spindle bearings are adjustable by locknut at top of spindle. Spindle and quill assembly are moved by counter-weight providing uniform smoothness for entire stroke.
Arm raising safety device prevents the arm from falling in event of excessive wear of arm raising mechanism.
